Urge Your Representative to Protect Access to Contraception

With Republicans attacking access to contraception at both the state and federal levels through things like slashing funding for family planning programs, eliminating insurance coverage requirements, and calling for the Supreme Court to overturn its precedent protecting access to contraception, it’s more important than ever for Congress to take action to defend reproductive rights. But MAGA Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is refusing to hold a vote on the Right to Contraception Act, a bill to enshrine protections in federal law for accessing birth control and family planning services. Almost all Democrats have cosponsored the bill, and a few Republicans have said they’re open to supporting it, but none have cosponsored.

The Right to Contraception Act would:

• Guarantee the legal right for individuals to access contraception via services, information, and referrals and guarantee the right of providers to provide this care
• Prohibit the federal government or any state from prohibiting or restricting contraception
• Allow the Department of Justice, individuals, and providers harmed by restrictions on contraception to go to court to enforce these rights

House Democrats have launched a discharge petition that will force Johnson to allow a vote on the Right to Contraception Act if the petition gets 218 signatures. That means we’ll need every Democrat and a handful of those Republicans who claim to support contraception access to sign the discharge petition to force the floor vote on passage of the bill.
